This Christmas season we encourage you to get to know your neighbors by hosting a Christmas party at your home.
PRAY
Since you will not be able to invite everyone, start praying about whom you will invite. Look for where God is already at work. Think about people you will be able to follow up with and continue building relationships. Don’t invite your “church” friends.
Here are two things you can start praying for now!
Ask God to mobilize each person in our congregation to be “On Mission” where they live, work, and play.
Pray for your neighbors by name – ask the Lord for open hearts and open doors.
PARTNER
Before you begin the planning process ask an RBC church member to partner with you to help prepare and host the party!
PLAN
Determine whether you want a formal dinner or something more casual, like a themed party. Themes are a lot of fun, you can have a friendly gingerbread house making competition, a tasty cookie exchange, or a quirky white elephant party. Now that you know what kind of party you’re going to host, it’s time to set the date, time, and menu. Consider sending out a save the date or e-vite four weeks prior. Send out invitations at least 2-3 weeks in advance if not sooner, as calendars fill up fast around this time of year. The idea is to be the first Christmas Party on the calendar! Try to plan it for early December.
Possible Flow:
(just to get you thinking)
- 7:00-7:45 | Guest arrive, finger foods, hot cocoa, hanging out.
- 7:45-8:45 | Your party could have a theme, like an Ugly Sweater contest, a White Elephant gift exchange, or you all could make gingerbread houses. You could even simply share some of your traditions with your neighbors.
- 8:45-9:00 | Someone could share a life-change testimony or what Christmas means to you. Be sure to invite your guests to the Christmas service at RBC!
